The South Beach Diet is definitely a diet for those
who love food. If living good and enjoying the food that you
eat is your cup of tea then the South Beach diet could be just
for you. The diet is divided into three sections or phases as
they like to call them.
Phase 1.
Lasting just two weeks this is the shortest phase of the
program. It's designed to do away with your cravings for sugary
foods as well as those refined starches. During this phase you
will stabilize your blood sugar - which minimizes those
munches. This is a great diet for those that are type 2
diabetics or pre-diabetic, along with those who just want to
get rid of a lot of weight.
During this period the focus is on eating fiber-rich,
nutrient-dense foods that fill you up and eliminate the
munches. You have your choice of fish and seafood, white meat
and skinless poultry and lean cuts of beef. For the vegetarians
there is tofu and beans. Fiber rich veggie's, low fat cheeses,
eggs, dairy products low in fat, unsaturated fats, like those
found in avocados, great tasting nuts and of course seeds, and
extra virgin olive oils are allowed.
How does chicken breast, stuffed with goat cheese and
spinach, or Salmon seared with pecans accompanied by lentils
sound? They are both in your choices for phase 1.
The South Beach Diet doesn't skimp on snacks, as a matter of
fact they stress the use of snacks.
Don't forget the dessert! Each day you will dine on dessert
like chilled espresso custard or one of the other great options
during this first phase.
This description of phase 1 sounds more like an
advertisement for a gourmet meal rather than a diet review.
Phase 2
If you have less than ten pounds to lose and your in control
of the munches then this would be the place for you to start.
You'll eat every thing in phase 1 plus you'll start to add in
the "good carbs" like whole grain bread and pasta, brown rice
and a lot more veggie's like sweet potatoes and peas.
Some of the desserts during phase 2 are green tea truffles,
dark chocolate bark with walnuts, and chocolate berry cups.
The greatest part is you're eating like a gourmet and still
losing weight.
Phase 3
By the time you have reached this point you're an old hand
at making smart food choices that compliment your way of life.
This phase begins when you reach your healthy weight. Because
this stage is a life long stage almost every food you can think
of is included in this phase and there is even room for an
occasional stray.
Some of the decadent choices during this third phase include
Asian chicken salad with wonton crisps, chicken pot pie or how
about Dutch apple pancakes for brunch. The side dishes, snacks
and desserts are equally decadent. Anyone for chocolate pie
with peanut butter crust?
